SUMMARY:Blue Stories Project - Sharing journeys out of perinatal depression
DESCRIPTION:Blue Stories Project: Sharing journeys out of perinatal depression\n\nJohnsonville\, Wellington\n\nOpening event: Sat 11th March\, 2pm\n\nExhibition dates: 11th March to 10th April\, 2023\n\nIn 2021\, the Blue Stories Project was initiated in Whakatū Nelson by illustrator and designer\, Karolina Gorton\, and Perinatal Support Nelson\, as an exhibition of portraits alongside inspiring and encouraging stories. In 2022 and 2023\, the Project is expanding its reach nationwide. Stories from Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington along with pop-art style portraits created by Karolina will be exhibited from the 11th of March to the 10th of April at the Johnsonville Library\, Waitohi Hub. You are invited to come along and connect with these storytellers and the stories that so often remain untold. \n  \nThis exhibition has been created in association with Greenstone Doors and The Ruth Project (Wairarapa) with support from National charity Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Aotearoa (PADA). The 2022 PADA manager\, Treena Cooper\, says\, “We can empower people by sharing stories\, reaching people who may need help but are too afraid to reach out.” \n  \nAll are welcome at the exhibition’s opening on Saturday 11th March\, 2pm at Johnsonville Library\, Waitohi Hub\, where there will be guest speakers and an afternoon tea provided. \n  \n“…a deeply moving and profound project…” – Rachel Sanson\, Nelson City Councillor \n  \n“The PND project display stopped me in my tracks today. Ka rawe! Good to see PND in the spotlight\, from first person perspective.” – Rosamund Feeney\, Community Programme Coordinator \n\nKaupapa\n  \nThe Blue Stories Project supports activities that encourage rerekē mō te pai (change for the better) and te kotahitanga i roto i te kanorautanga (unity in diversity). This is a project that creates a culture of supporting ALL women and their families. It educates communities and normalises the topic of PND. \n\nNgā mihi nui\n  \nThe Blue Stories Project has been created in conjunction with Perinatal Support Nelson and Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Aotearoa (PADA) and with support from the National Lottery Community Grants scheme. These seven organisations are involved in the project: Well Women Franklin\, Perinatal Wellbeing Canterbury\, Maternal Mental Wellbeing Marlborough\, Central Lakes Family Services\, True Colours – Honouring the Mother\, Greenstone Doors and The Ruth Project. \nHere are a selection of the inspiring stories that have been shared with The Blue Stories Project: journeys out of perinatal depression in collaboration with Greenstone Doors and The Ruth Project Wairarapa and support of Little Shadow in the Wellington region. Ngā mihi nui to all who have contributed.  \nRead Blue Stories Project from the Wellington Region  \n\nWant to find out more?\n  \nHead to www.bluestoriesproject.com to listen to interviews and to see the complete Blue Stories Project exhibition schedule. \n

I have been doing my post graduate in this area and want to know from whānau what it is that works well for them.” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Fully Booked!\nDue to overwhelming demand\, all spaces are taken for the Waiora Whāea Hui in Oketopa October 2022. SUMMARY:PADA Popup Chat #29 - Power to Protect with Sheila Fowlie
DESCRIPTION:PADA Popup Chat #29 – Power to Protect Programme  \nPADA Popup chats are free\, short sessions to promote up-to-date and relevant information about perinatal mental health. Join our Zoom chat for a live\, interactive session where you can ask questions from our subject expert\, giving you more tools for yourself\, and to help whānau and families in the perinatal period of pregnancy\, childbirth and early parenting. \nPower to Protect\, an effective primary prevention education programme about crying infants and the harm caused by shaking a baby.\nPADA Popup Chat #29 Power to Protectwith Sheila FowlieRāhina Monday – 15 Ākuhata August – 10:30am – 11:30am \nWatch the video here \nWe All Have the Power to Protect!\nAbusive Head Trauma (AHT) or Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is the leading cause of head injury in children under 2 years of age. Around 20 to 30 infants and children are admitted in New Zealand hospitals each year as a result of SBS\, and this number is rising. One in five of these children will die and those who survive will have permanent brain damage. Recognising this as a national health crisis and believing that ‘Prevention is better than cure’; the specialist team at Te Puararuhau developed a primary prevention programme. \nThis programme provides a unique\, evidence-based opportunity to provide effective\, simple\, and consistent education about crying infants and the harm caused by shaking a baby. It is information that every parent and caregiver of a baby needs to know\, and has been shown to reduce the incidence of AHT. \nWe invite you to take a journey with Sheila Fowlie to explore the incidence\, causes and impact of this devastating injury on our tamariki\, whānau and New Zealand society.  Together we can discover the positive steps we could all take towards protecting our most vulnerable. \n\nFor Further Information from Power to Protect\n“Never Ever Shake A Baby \n\n\n\n\nIt is normal for babies to cry\, and it’s normal for caregivers to get frustrated. Have a plan for what you will do if your baby keeps crying and you become upset or frustrated. It is never ever OK to shake a baby. Make sure that all the people who care for your baby know this. Never leave your baby alone with anyone that you think might lose control.” \n\nFor this and more information go to KidsHealth.org Never Ever Shake A Baby. \nDownload their resources here\, and watch the video here. \n\n\nAbout Sheila Fowlie\, Power to Protect Programme (P2P)\nSheila Fowlie is the National Coordinator\, Nurse Specialist for the Power to Protect Programme (P2P). The Power to Protect Programme is developed and a part of the Te Puaruruhau- Child Protection unit at Starship Child Health in Auckland New Zealand. Her role as the national coordinator for P2P is to provide leadership\, coordination and support for the implementation and evaluation of the Power to Protect Programme at a national level.
