DESCRIPTION:PADA Māori Maternal Mental Health Hui\nWaiora Whāea – 27 & 28 Oketopa October 2022\nTANGATARUA MARAE – ROTORUA\nJoin us on 27 and 28 Oketopa October 2022 for our second in person Māori Maternal Mental Health Hui\, being held at Tangatarua Marae in Rotorua. \nWe are grateful to be bringing our annual Māori Maternal Mental Health hui back in person\, following our first hui held in Noema November 2020\, and our Hui-Ā-Ipurangi/Online Hui in 2021. \nThe focus of this hui will be on restoring traditional Māori practices in the maternal mental health space. This is more than a seminar\, this hui will be an immersive and interactive experience held over two days\, full of the wisdom and healing of Te Ao and Tikanga Māori. \nWe are hoping to bring you the wisdom of Raranga | Māori weaving ~ Taonga Pūoro | Music ~ Mirimiri | Massage ~ Rongoā Māori | Traditional Māori Healing. \nFor full details | Programme of Events | Kaikōrero | Presenters go to this page! \n  \nRegistration Options\nEarly Bird Saving – Save $50 on full price 2-day attendance by registering today. Book and complete payment before 31 Hūrae July 2022 – $50 per person \nFull Price 2-day registration price from 1 Akuhata August 2022 – $100 per person \nPlease note: There is no difference in price should you only join us for one day. You are encouraged to join us for both days for this fully interactive and immersive event. \nThanks to our funders – to Te Hiringa Hauora | Health Promotion Agency | The Gattung Foundation and COGS Community Organisation Grants Scheme for funding to enable this hui to go ahead\, and to Bay Trust for subsiding the cost of registrations. \nSome of the feedback received from Whakamana Te Whare Tangata Hui-Ā-Ipurangi in Noema November 2021: \n“As a pakeha\, what I gained was invaluable appreciation for what it means to have to fight for your voice to be heard and your ways to be respected. Knowledge weighs a tonne but it does help build bridges” \n“How important it is to return to have a traditional Māori health system that I believe will not only start to help heal the Māori community but is also a healing and environmentally sustainable health system for everyone.” \n“As pākehā kaimahi we need to focus on cultural safety in all that we do. I have been doing my post graduate in this area and want to know from whānau what it is that works well for them.” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Fully Booked!\nDue to overwhelming demand\, all spaces are taken for the Waiora Whāea Hui in Oketopa October 2022. SUMMARY:PADA Popup Chat #29 - Power to Protect with Sheila Fowlie
DESCRIPTION:PADA Popup Chat #29 – Power to Protect Programme  \nPADA Popup chats are free\, short sessions to promote up-to-date and relevant information about perinatal mental health. Join our Zoom chat for a live\, interactive session where you can ask questions from our subject expert\, giving you more tools for yourself\, and to help whānau and families in the perinatal period of pregnancy\, childbirth and early parenting. \nPower to Protect\, an effective primary prevention education programme about crying infants and the harm caused by shaking a baby.\nPADA Popup Chat #29 Power to Protectwith Sheila FowlieRāhina Monday – 15 Ākuhata August – 10:30am – 11:30am \nWatch the video here \nWe All Have the Power to Protect!\nAbusive Head Trauma (AHT) or Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is the leading cause of head injury in children under 2 years of age. Around 20 to 30 infants and children are admitted in New Zealand hospitals each year as a result of SBS\, and this number is rising. One in five of these children will die and those who survive will have permanent brain damage. Recognising this as a national health crisis and believing that ‘Prevention is better than cure’; the specialist team at Te Puararuhau developed a primary prevention programme. \nThis programme provides a unique\, evidence-based opportunity to provide effective\, simple\, and consistent education about crying infants and the harm caused by shaking a baby. It is information that every parent and caregiver of a baby needs to know\, and has been shown to reduce the incidence of AHT. \nWe invite you to take a journey with Sheila Fowlie to explore the incidence\, causes and impact of this devastating injury on our tamariki\, whānau and New Zealand society.  Together we can discover the positive steps we could all take towards protecting our most vulnerable. \n\nFor Further Information from Power to Protect\n“Never Ever Shake A Baby \n\n\n\n\nIt is normal for babies to cry\, and it’s normal for caregivers to get frustrated. Have a plan for what you will do if your baby keeps crying and you become upset or frustrated. It is never ever OK to shake a baby. Make sure that all the people who care for your baby know this. Never leave your baby alone with anyone that you think might lose control.” \n\nFor this and more information go to KidsHealth.org Never Ever Shake A Baby. \nDownload their resources here\, and watch the video here. \n\n\nAbout Sheila Fowlie\, Power to Protect Programme (P2P)\nSheila Fowlie is the National Coordinator\, Nurse Specialist for the Power to Protect Programme (P2P). The Power to Protect Programme is developed and a part of the Te Puaruruhau- Child Protection unit at Starship Child Health in Auckland New Zealand. Her role as the national coordinator for P2P is to provide leadership\, coordination and support for the implementation and evaluation of the Power to Protect Programme at a national level. After an NLP session\, a person should be able to empower themselves by knowing they are in control of their life\, actions and emotions so they can just show up as the best possible version of themselves. \nWhat Elaine Thompson says about NLP.. \nN = neuro; we are looking at our minds\, and the incredible and beautiful power they have to create our whole world. We think\, we feel\, we do. Everything we are begins with a thought. So how does that thought begin? Where are its roots? \nL = linguistic; its roots are in language\, the language of our world\, the language of our Creator. Everything speaks to us. We receive messages through every one of our senses. Sometimes we remember\, very often we don’t. We’ve been listening from the moment of our conception. And we are still listening now. \nP = programming; are we aware of this? Because in the infinite complexity of being human\, we have the power to make choices. To choose what we listen to\, to choose what to keep\, to choose what to lay down and leave. And so to own our thoughts\, own our emotions and own our doings. \nFor me\, this is where I teach from\, where I parent from\, where I aspire to make a difference from x \nLearn more about Elaine at Your Life Live It here \nRegister to attend here \nPADA Popups are free\, short sessions to promote recent and relevant information about perinatal mental health.  The information is educational and not clinical advice. Cultural competence comprises four components: cultural awareness\, sensitivity\, knowledge and skills. \n\n\n\nWith increasing cultural diversity of the population in New Zealand\, our health workforce is increasingly likely to care for clients or interact with colleagues with language\, experiences\, beliefs and cultures different from their own. \n\n\n\nThe New Zealand Ministry of Health requires District Health Boards to provide services that acknowledge the diversity of cultures and ensure services are accessible\, culturally appropriate\, effective and safe. As well\, the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (HPCAA) requires registration authorities to set standards of clinical competence and cultural competence.
